Description: DBIA-WPR San Diego Chapter Lunch #1, BEYOND THE KOOL-AID: WHAT EXPERIENCE TEACHES US ABOUT PROGRESSIVE DESIGN-BUILD. RISKS, READINESS, AND LESSONS FROM THE FIELD. Join DBIA-WPR San Diego Chapter for a luncheon. Progressive Design-Build is gaining traction for complex, high-risk projects—but experience shows that the delivery method alone does not guarantee success. This session draws on real-world advisory experience with public owners and integrated teams to examine how early decisions, behaviors, and assumptions shape outcomes long before construction begins.
Focusing on owner readiness, team selection strategies, and early alignment, the presentation explores how Progressive Design-Build works in practice—not just in theory. Topics include defining success prior to procurement, structuring validation and preconstruction phases, applying Target Value Design to manage cost and scope in real time, and establishing commercial frameworks that support trust, accountability, and performance.
Attendees will gain practical, experience-driven insight into how early Progressive Design-Build decisions influence budget certainty, schedule control, risk management, and team dynamics—helping teams move beyond enthusiasm toward disc plined, sustainable execution.
