Design Build Institute of America Western Pacific Region

The Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) Western Pacific is a membership organization founded to advocate and advance single source project delivery within the design and construction community. The design-build method of project delivery embraces architecture, engineering and construction services under a single contract, thereby re-integrating the roles of designer and constructor. In addition to public- and private-sector project owners, DBIA members include practitioners from all project phases.

DBIA focuses its efforts on increasing the successful use of innovative design-build teams on non-residential building, civil infrastructure and process industry projects.

San Diego Miramar College Celebrates Opening of “Green” Police Station

Grand opening and open house for the new Police Station and parking structure at San Diego Miramar College, the latest San Diego Community College District project funded by Propositions S and N. The $17.8 million project is on track to obtain a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum Certification by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC).

Legislative Committee Report: Legislative Committee-there are current bills moving through the legislature in Hawaii which would improve design-build guidelines in that state. However, no new bills have been introduced in the current California legislative session which will directly affect existing design-build guidelines. Our plan for 2011 is to work closely with the AGC and other proponents to develop a “consolidating” bill for 2012 which would bring together all of the various existing bills into one for continuity and simplicity.
