Lunch Program (Bay)

Date: August 14, 2018

Time: 11:30am - 1:30pm

Location: San Francisco Marriott - Union Square

Description: Bay Chapter Lunch Program. "DESIGN-BUILD PROGRESS AND SUCCESS IN SAN FRANCISCO - UPDATE ON FLOATING FIRE STATION 35 AND UPCOMING CITY OF SAN FRANCISCO WORK"

Our speakers from the City and County of San Francisco and the Swinerton-Power Joint Venture will discuss the progress of the planning, design and construction of the proposed floating Fire Boat Station 35. The scope of this project will include (1) the demolition of the existing finger piers, shed, and the south parking area and (2) the construction of a new steel float upon which will be built a two-level 16,000 square foot fire boat station. The new float will rovide mooring for three(3) fire boats and a smaller vessel. The fire boat station will house all necessary fire boat operations and support programs, including a marine emergency operations center (or EOC), storage of specialty gear, hoses, booms, foam, and related items, a small rescue craft, a decontamination space, and a drive-through ambulance access way. Cranes mounted on the floating pier will be used for moving equipment and small craft. Ms. Ryor will discuss why the San Francisco Public Works Department chose to use the design-build delivery method, including perceived benefits and challenges for this project. Ms. Dunn will discuss the project from the design-build entity’s perspective.
